MISCELLANEOUS
1844 Concord School Log Cabin Historical Society
The Society was established to restore and preserve the 1844 Concord School one-room log cabin school accidently discovered, inside the 1872 Peter Deitrich farmhouse destined for demolition in Concord Village, south St. Louis County. Pre-Civil War log cabin schools had "boards-painted-black" not slate, ie. blackboards.  Few exist today, since they were often left to ruin when communities upgraded log buildings to frame or brick.  Dietrich recycled the 1844 log cabin school by building his 1872 farmhouse around it, where it remained preserved for 131 years. The 1820 Ebenezer Academy in Statesville, NC is the oldest surviving one-room log cabin in the US, with Concord School being second.
